- Konichiwa,
-
- I have to backup an entire UNIX system to 5 inch MO
- disks.
-
- As you know, "tar" has *MANY* options and variations.
-
- My question is simply:
- What is the best way to use "tar"
- to make a backup of all filesystems?
-
-
- A little detail about the system I need to backup:
- -----------------------------------------------
- output of df:
- /
- /usr
- /proc
- /dev/fd
- /var
- /tmp
- /home
- /opt
- /tepco
-
- output of "mount":
- /
- /usr
- /proc
- /dev/fd
- /var
- /tmp
- /home
- /opt
-
-
- System:
- RAM: 32 Mb
- Swap space: 86 Mb

- If anyone in cyberspace could share their battle experiences
- with me, I would really appreciate it. I just recovered
- from a nasty experience using Unix. You see, I accidentlly deleted
- the /bin directory from the server while using the root userID.
- Unix is NOT a trivial OS and I have a lot of respect for it.
- There are many little things to learn.
